Extravagant Fitness, Extravagant Fun
It's big, it's cool, it's truly extravagant. The town of Morley is proud of its brand new playground system.
The Blue Imp "Extravaganza" rolls fun and fitness into an eye-catching play system for kids of all ages.
"Kids love movement. A well-designed playground gets kids moving without realizing they are getting fit at the same time," says Verna Scott.
Scott has 21 years of experience in the playground industry with Alberta-based Blue Imp Recreational Products.
The Scott family has been manufacturing playground equipment for four generations. In fact, this special Blue Imp "Extravaganza" unit was launched to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Blue Imp's founding company, S.F.Scott (est'd 1917).
The Extravaganza in Morley was sold and installed by GPI Outdoor Designs, Blue Imp's representative in Calgary and southwest Alberta.
"This type of playground gives kids a real heart-pumping and muscle-building work-out," says Scott. "Kids only see the fun, but adults could see it as aerobics and weight-training."
Scott says the Blue Imp Extravaganza features climbers and overheads with varying levels of difficulty, all designed to develop both upper body and lower body muscle groups as well has hand-eye co-ordination.
Kids will get a muscle-building kick out of the extensive overhead circuit with both fixed and non-fixed hand-holds in straight, curvy and circular designs.
"We design overheads in a circuit because kids like to start at one end and go to the other without stopping or touching the ground. It's a game called "grounders" and it really builds upper body strength as well as endurance," explains Scott.
Even the slides encourage movement as kids love the thrill of sliding and will climb up over and over again just so they can slide down one more time.
Slides on the Extravaganza offer great variety, from side-by-side sliding to circular motion and the thrilling Deep Dip slide with its steep descent.
Blue Imp's stainless steel construction ensures great sliding as well as vandal-proof durability.
Scotts says that "teachers and parents have told us that many kids struggle to make it up the climbers or across the overheads in the beginning, but over time, their fitness level improves noticeably."
Morley can truly be proud of its "extravagant" playground... one more step forward in keeping our kids happy and fit.
