The position

This is a new position with untapped potential. We are looking for the right candidate and are willing to be flexible to find them. This position can be part time or full time, based on candidate preference. Need to work around school pick-ups and drop-offs? No problem. Want to work 4 day weeks instead of 5? Sure, we will see you Monday.

Our compensation package is comprehensive and will reflect the level of experience you bring to the table.

Key Responsibilities:

1. People & Culture

  • Spearhead employee engagement events, activities, and surveys
  • Create meaningful relationships with employees and focus on perpetuating a positive employee culture
  • Create, manage and monitor an employee recognition program

2. Employee Relations

  • Listen to staff grievances and provide guidance for a meaningful solutions
  • Collect data from employees and bring forward ideas to the executive team
  • Provide guidance and coaching to managers when dealing with performance issues, disciplinary action, and terminations
  • Ensure all appropriate related paperwork, forms and letters are in place relating to employee performance and required documentation for any terminations
  • Conduct investigations when complaints or concerns are raised

3. Employee information and Reporting

  • Ensure all employee information in recorded and maintained accurately
  • Produce analytics to assist the executive team with strategic planning (HR-related reports monthly, including organizational charts, turnover rates, change reports and headcount reports to support)

4. Recruitment

  • Advertise job opportunities to maximize exposure using Indeed and the company careers page, and other venues as appropriate
  • Screen resumes
  • Assist with interviews and conduct reference checks as requested
  • Create the offer letter and assist with onboarding the new employee
  • Attend recruitment events when necessary
  • Assist candidates with work permits and other government mandated documents

5. Onboarding and performance reviews

  • Develop a comprehensive onboarding experience that includes both probationary and formal performance reviews
  • Facilitate new hire orientation sessions and guided tours
  • Assist managers with completing probationary and annual reviews

6. Employee benefits

  • Enroll all new hires in the benefits plan and remove employees as they leave the company
  • Administer other employee benefits changes as needed

7. Total Compensation

  • Benchmarking and analytics for annual and off-cycle compensation reviews
  • Participation in reviews of compensation programs
  • Preparation of data for compensation surveys and annual information circular
  • Administration of annual salary, bonus and equity compensation review processes

8. WCB Management

  • Work with employees to complete all necessary paperwork related to a workplace injury (WCB)
  • Manage the employee’s return to work by maintaining contact with the employee and working with the Case Managers at WCB

9. Policies and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation
  • Anticipate legislation updates and advise management on needed actions
  • Ensure policies remain up to date with changing legislation and develop new policies as required
  • Answer employee questions that pertain to company policies
  • Ensure company policies are administered in a fair, non-discriminatory manner

10. Other

  • Ad Hoc duties as assigned by the executive management team
  • Help to facilitate social media content

Key skills and qualifications:

  • A positive and proactive attitude
  • High attention to detail with good analytical skills
  • General understanding of provincial employment standards and legislation
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize and organize multiple tasks effectively, and see them through to timely completion
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word and Excel
  • A go-getter; you will be comfortable bringing new ideas forward
  • Ability to work independently and execute ideas with little assistance

Education and experience:

  • Post-secondary education in HR, Business, or related field considered an asset
  • Three or more years of experience as an HR Generalist
